Pin Oak printed on comos and madder dyed Habotai Silk. Soaked in iron water to release the tannins, this scarf was printed twice, creating "ghost prints." Oak leaves are gathered in mid-autumn when they naturally dry on the branch. Cosmos create a deep, intense yellow, which turns a copper-ish tone when madder root is added.
Care Instructions for Botanically Dyed Fabric and Fibers:
Botanically dyed fabric and yarns requires a bit of extra care. Hand wash only, using "free & clear" laundry detergent in cold water (i.e. Seventh Generation "Free & Clear").
Please note that these dyes are water-based, and steam bathed to produce adherence. The dyes are not uniform as are commercially dyed products; flaws are part of the overall character. All botanically dyed fabrics fade somewhat. Again, it is all part of the natural appeal.
